Cascara Sagrada (bark) Extract– The dried bark of cascara has been used for centuries as an herbal laxative — first by Native Americans in the Pacific Northwest, and then later by European/U.S. colonizers. These act as stimulant laxatives and excite the smooth muscle cells in the large intestine.
Senna (leaf) Extract – used in modern medicine as a laxative, acting on the lower bowel. Especially useful in alleviating constipation. It increases the peristaltic movements of the colon by irritating the colonic mucosa. Side effects that can start appearing after 7 days of prolonged use.
Aloe Vera (leaf) Powder—Used to reduce constipation, soothes and heals the lining of the intestine
Yellow Dock (root) Powder – yellow dock root has been thought to be a blood purifier and general detoxifier, especially for the liver. The herb, properly known as Rumex crispus, supports detoxification from a few angles. First off, yellow dock root stimulates bile production, which helps digestion, particularly of fats. Yellow dock root can stimulate a bowel movement to help remove lingering waste from your intestinal tract; it also increases the frequency of urination to assist in toxin elimination. Maintaining an efficient rate of waste elimination can help prevent toxins from accumulating in the liver, gallbladder, and bloodstream and circumvent the associated problems.
Ginger (rhizome) Powder – help your body’s natural detoxing system do its job and one study showed that it can reduce colon inflammation.
Garlic (clove) Powder – has antiviral, antibacterial and anti-parasitic properties, which help to remove toxins, pathogens and parasites from the digestive tract, particularly from the colon of the large intestine. Garlic acts as an antioxidant helping to reduce inflammation and to cleanse the colon for improved digestion, absorption of food nutrients and elimination of wastes and toxins.
Marshmallow (root) Powder – nourishes the lungs and coats and soothes the urinary tract.
Oregano (leaf) Powder – very good source of fiber. Fiber works in the body to bind to bile salts and cancer-causing toxins in the colon and remove them from the body. This forces the body to break down cholesterol to make more bile salts.
Fenugreek (seed) Powder- mainly used as digestive aid.
Burdock (root) Powder — used as a blood fibre purifier. It can be used alone, but is often used in combination with yellow dock and sarsaparilla. Contains inulin, a fiber/carbohydrate that isn’t digested or absorbed in the stomach, that makes its way to the colon where it serves as a prebiotic (food) for the probiotics (good bacteria) in the colon. Budrock Root contains improves colon health and contains arctigenin which has been shown to have anticancer properties. Studies done with animals exposed to toxic chemicals and given a burdock root tea shows it protects against cellular damage and abnormal growths, and reduced liver damage from toxic chemicals.
Buckthorn (bark) Powder — Like Cascara, Buckthorn is an effective herbal alternative for occasional constipation. The bitter herb also acts as a tonic for healthy liver and gallbladder functions, and is a popular addition to traditional blood purifying blends.
Dandelion (root) Powder– flavonoids that give dandelion its well deserved “blood purifying” properties. These compounds work in the digestive system to increase the flow of urine. Unlike other diuretics, dandelion contains vast amounts of potassium that restores the mineral balance in the kidneys as toxins are flushed out.
Dandelion is in most liver tonics due to the oils, the bitter resins that stimulate the digestive system. The fiber in the whole plant is described as viscous because of its astonishing ability to absorb and transport toxins from the bowels out of the body, balance intestinal flora, and soothe the digestive tract in the process.
Slippery Elm (bark) Powder— This mucilaginous herb helps absorb toxins in the bowel. Very soothing to the entire digestive system. Especially useful for diarrhea and bowel weakness.
Red Clover (flower) Powder – wonderful blood purifier and cleanser and has been used to treat irritable bowel, gout, kidney and liver ailments.
Milk Thistle (seed) Extract- may inhibit the binding of toxins to the liver.
